About Us

Welcome to the internet home of the San Diego Tropical Fish Society (SDTFS), the oldest and most active fish and aquarium club in San Diego. We have monthly meetings with interesting programs and speakers, mini-auctions, bowl shows, and a raffle with lots of great prizes.  In addition, we have an annual show, large semi-annual auctions of fish, plants, and equipment, and monthly field trips.  We have club members interested in discus, guppies, bettas, angelfish, koi, African cichlids, goldfish, aquatic plants, and all aspects of freshwater and marine fish keeping.

The objectives of the SDTFS are to bring together a congenial group of people mutually interested in tropical and exotic fishes and other forms of aquatic life, and to promote interest in, further the study of, and encourage the presentation and preservation of aquatic life. We'd love to have you join us!

Bowl Show Schedule

January – Anabantoidei except Betta splendens, and Gobies
February – Betta splendens male & female judged separately and Rainbow Fish
March – Guppies in pairs and Old World Cichlids
April – Auction, no bowl show
May – Mollies, Platies, and Swordtails in pairs
June – Aquatic Plants and New World Cichlids
July – Rasbora, Barbs, and other Cyprinids plus Killifish
August – Characins, Catfish and Loaches
September – Goldfish and Odd Live bearers in pairs
October – Non Vertebrates, Aquatic Animals, Amphibians, Aquatic Reptiles, and Oddball fish not listed
November – Show and Auction, no bowl show
December – Marine Fish, Native Fish, and Xmas Fish Art

 In the bowl show there are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards within each catagory. If there is more than one catagory there is also a Best of Show award.
