The San Diego Tropical Fish Society Annual November Show
This show is the
highlight of our year. It is the best time to reach out to the public and show
them what our hobby is all about. Members bring fish and aquariums from home and
set them up for public display. We judge the entries in many categories, and
winners are awarded prizes. Competition can be very fierce. There is no entry
fee, and admission is free. It takes place on the first weekend in November.

Here is one of the rows of tanks, just after we finished setting up the
show last November. |
 |
Ben Ivy's display of about 30 incredible male show guppies was first
inside the door and set the high tone for the show. |

Steve Graen's prizewinning tank was a beautiful example of aquascaping.
This tank won our prestigious Aquarium Beautiful Award. |
 |
Mark and Arlene Ferguson put together a beautifully planted tank with
several species of Rainbow fish. This tank won the President's Award for
the year. |

Winner of the Oddball Award, Kirk Bean's Ctenopoma acutirostre, also
known as a Climbing Perch. It defied the reputation of the species
as shy, staying right out front where it could see us. Kirk and I had
debated for some time just what a Climbing Perch looked like and finally
found that more than one specie of Ctenopoma is known as a Climbing Perch. |
